Contaminant Destruction and Reduction of Organic Fouling by Use of Upstream Ozone/Peroxide in RO Membrane Treatment Systems
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 11/01/2009

Document Format: PDF

Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of water scarcity and water quality, population growth, and membrane fouling potential. The study focused on the following questions. Does pre-oxidation reduce organic fouling ofmembranes in reuse systems? Can this be demonstrated at pilot scale? How much energy savings could be realizedfrom such a setup? Given additional scavenging, decreased UVT,etc., is moving oxidation/AOP in front ofmembranes cost effective? What impact would moving AOP in front ofmembranes have on contaminant destruction?(And disinfection?) Advanced oxidation processes are presented, including HiPOx, flat sheet testing, zeta potential data, manufacturer-reportedmembrane surface charge, 24-hour, and high flux foulingresults. Includes figures.
