Description
This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of microcystis and Lake Erie, microcystin-LR, treatment approaches, and membranes and drinking water. Study objectives include the following:investigate the fate of microcystin-LR duringwater treatment using powdered activated carbon – ultrafiltration (PAC-UF); and, examine the role of natural organic matter(NOM) in the removal of microcystin-LR usingPAC-UF. Presentation conclusions indicate the following:PAC-UF can effectively remove microcystin-LRfrom drinking water;membrane pore size and composition influenceremoval;hydrophobic membranes sorb microcystin-LR;adsorption is reversible;smaller pore size results in greater rejection by sizeexclusion; and,SRFA/Lake Erie NOM hinder sorption of MC-LRto PAC and hydrophobic membrane surfaces. Includes tables, figures.
