Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1998

Document Format: PDF

Description

This article describes the effort to develop new water supplies by the City of San Diego. 90% of its water supply is imported from the Colorado River and the State Water Project. Increasing demands are being placed on these water supplies by other states, environmental concerns, agricultural interests, and urban growth. It is projected that San Diego will need to identify an additional 250,000 afy of new water supply by the year 2015. Integrated resources plans have identified a mix of resources to make up this supply shortfall that include: agricultural transfers from the Imperial Valley and Central Valley, demand management, seawater desalination, water reclamation, and water repurification. The efforts to develop these resources are discussed.
