Design Considerations for Producing High-Purity Recycled Water Using Membrane Technologies
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 03/01/2007

Document Format: PDF

Description

This slide presentation outlines a pilot testing project with the objectives of:verifying that water quality objectives can be met;evaluating performance with two source waters;characterizing the reverse osmosis (RO) reject;establishing design parameters;collecting operational data to develop warrantyconsiderations for design; and, provide operational experience for the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) staff. Operational issues for both microfiltration (MF) and RO systems are listed related to both tertiary effluent testing and secondary effluent testing. Conclusions drawn from the Pilot Testing included: demonstrated that required water quality (WQ) objectives can bemet using MF/RO technologies;MF/RO performance acceptable with secondaryand tertiary effluent;three RO membrane vendors indicated they canmeet criteria;waste stream characteristics useful in projectplanning; and, results from the pilot testing identified operationalissues that will be incorporated into the design. Includes tables, figures.
