Description

Since the promulgation of more stringent standards for arsenic in drinking water, manywater purveyors are considering options for meeting these standards within theconfiguration of their existing systems. Part of the solution for many systems will includeremoval of arsenic through a wellhead water treatment plant. Coagulation/microfiltration(C/MF) has been shown in bench-scale testing, pilot testing, and full-scale systems to be aneffective technology for removal of arsenic and meeting the arsenic standards. Thispresentation describes the application of C/MF technology for arsenic removal for theFallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe Arsenic Removal Water Treatment Plant. This project is beingimplemented by the Indian Health Service in Fallon, Nevada. It is a 0.5-million gallon perday wellhead water treatment plant being integrated into an existing water distributionsystem. The presentation includes the following topics: general project description; plantprocess description; major process equipment specifics; and initial operating data andsystem performance.
