Overview of Membrane Filtration for Municipal Water Treatment
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1999

Document Format: PDF

Description

This paper discusses the rapid growth in the use of membrane processes for municipal water treatment systems in the last few years. This growth is being driven by a number of factors such as: more stringent drinking water regulations; desire for improved product water quality; ease of operation; and, increasing cost-competitiveness with conventional treatment processes. Microfiltration and ultrafiltration membranes typically have pore sizes rated at 0.1 to 0.2 microns and 13,000 to 100,000 daltons, respectively, and operate at feed pressures between 20 and 75 psi depending on the specific application and membrane product. Includes table, figure.
