The focus of this paper is a reflection on questions and answers to help demonstrate therequisite considerations involved with really adopting Knowledge Management (KM) as a philosophy. Some of thesequestions include: How do I best implement a knowledge management philosophy within myutility? What are the supporting initiatives required to carry out that strategy? Is it possible Ihave already started these initiatives? What does my utility consider knowledge? How would Igo about conducting a knowledge audit? What organizational characteristics are necessary tofacilitate the formation of a KM infrastructure? How can I best incorporate KM initiativeswithin my current Capital Improvement Plan while ensuring future budgets more fully deliverthe benefits of KM strategies and initiatives? To help address such questions, it is essential tofirst understand a definition of Knowledge Management from the water/wastewater industryperspective.
