Description
The task of developing a Crisis Communications Plan for Mount Pleasant Waterworks (MPW) required a careful reviewof MPW’s Emergency Preparedness Manual, a review of the organization’s leadership and responsibilities, and apragmatic assessment of what would actually happen if and when there is a major crisis. The communications plan thatevolved complements, enhances, and, in some instances, streamlines MPW’s Emergency Preparedness Manual, whileincorporating those elements of AWWA’s Crisis Communications Plan Template that are appropriate for MPW.Using AWWA’s Crisis Communications Plan Template as a framework, the plan addresses issues associated withcommunicating with the media, employees, key customers, and the general public during crisis situations. The projectassessment of MPW’s Emergency Preparedness Manual resulted in recommendations for enhancing communicationduring a crisis, streamlining and making the communication process more efficient and effective, and offered MPW theoption of identifying those tasks they wanted to do and those with which they needed help from others.
