Description

The phosphorus elimination process has been successful in controlling eutrophication and algal blooms in the Wahnbach Reservoir near Siegburg, West Germany. This article describes the full-scale filtration process and the results achieved during several years of operation. Phosphate precipitation, particle destabilization, agglomeration, multimedia filters, and the reduction of turbidity, total phosphorus, chlorophyll, chemical oxygen demand, and dissolved organic carbon are covered.
