An up-to-date customer information system (CIS)is an essential component of an effective water utilitybusiness. These systems are responsible for a widerange of key business activities including billing, managingcredit and collections, tracking water consumption,and responding to customers’ needs. Having anold or outdated CIS results in decreased functionalityand productivity along with increased costs becauseof repairs. Upgrading or replacing (implementing) aCIS, however, is a daunting task with plenty of roomfor costly error, a major reason many utilities avoidit.
