Plant-scale comparison of direct filtration and conventional treatment was achieved by a split stream operation at a 340 ml/day (90mgd) water treatment plant in the state of New York. The study investigated the potential economies resulting from decreased coagulant use; fewer sludge production, treatment, and disposal problems; and reduced manpower requirements.
