Journal AWWA – Honolulu's New SCADA System
Journal Article by American Water Works Association, 08/01/1986

Document Format: PDF

Description

A new computer-based supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system controls and monitors the Honolulu Board of Water Supply’s pumping, storage, and distribution operations. Two operator consoles with color CRTs display water system data in symbol form and in trend format and also control pumps and valves at remote stations. In addition, the system automatically generates reports from the data it collects. Software is currently being developed that will reduce electrical power costs by time-controlling pumps to take advantage of off-peak rate schedules. This article discusses the following aspects of the system: hardware, operator functions, programmer functions, displays, alarms, reports, design considerations, and power conservation software. Includes figures.
