This article describes the progressive steps that water and sanitation authorities in Latin America have carried out, beginning in the 1950s and extending to the present, to implement the goal of providing these basic services for all. As water sector programs are realized for small villages and dispersed populations, regional authorities are integrating their activities to support such programs.
