Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 04/01/2005

Document Format: PDF

Description

To minimize impacts of fire sprinkler redesign, shorten the processing time, and make everycustomer transaction web-enabled, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) designed and implemented a new interactive web-basedFire Service Request (FSR) process that improved work processes through the use oftechnology. The new FSR process enables fire sprinkler contractors to make requests foravailable flow and pressure information at potential fire sprinkler connection points viaEBMUD’s internet website. Once the request is received, EBMUD performs a hydraulic analysisat the connection point and notifies the sprinkler contractor of the results within ten days. This paper discusses the design of the FSR web-based application and numerous advantagesincluding, but not limited to, user-friendly online forms, minimizing EBMUD’s response time tocustomers, ability to query and track FSRs, minimizing duplication of hydraulic models, andminimizing redesign of fire sprinkler systems. Includes figures.
