Description
This powerpoint presentation begins by providing the study objective that includes the following: to model the biodegradation of microcystin-LRusing a non-steady-state biofilm model, and compare model results with valuesobtained in laboratory-scale biofilters. A brief overview is provided of the following topics: Microcystin-LR; biofiltration;biofiltration simulation model; and,model parameters. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: the results of biofilm model, using estimatedbiofilm thickness, indicated a betteragreement with the total organic carbon (TOC) experimental datathan with the microcystin’s data; during theripening period, the simulation showedsmaller toxin effluent concentration than theones obtained experimentally; the higher concentration of microcystin in theeffluent of the biofiltration experiment duringthe ripening period may be related to twofactors, the low diffusivity of microcystin in the water and inthe biofilm, andthe large dispersion within the filter column.
