The Future of Water System Network Analysis
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1994

Document Format: PDF

Description

In 1992, in an effort to better manage City-owned facilities, South Gate, California, chose to embark upon an integrated Automated Mapping/Facilities Management (AM/FM) Master Planning and Management Program. A MicroStation computer platform is used for manipulating the graphic land base data which includes several infrastructure layers and topographic information tagged to an ORACLE database. In addition to the water system, the infrastructure database includes both the sanitary sewer and storm drain systems, a pavement management system, tree inventory, street lighting inventory and assessment file, parcel/zoning information, traffic control sign inventory, and computer flow models of the water distribution, storm drain and sanitary sewer systems. CASS WORKS software packages are used as the bridge between the graphic and non-graphic attribute data, and the network analysis software. This new computer system provides the City with state-of-the-art computer hardware and software, facilitating long-range planning and better management of the City’s infrastructure. The advantages of this system have been proven during the City’s recent fast track design and the City anticipates that the system will provide benefits long into the future.
