Description

The Inorganics and Corrosion Byproducts (IOC/CBP) Technical Advisory Committee (TAW) provides technical guidance to the AWWA Water Utility Council on matters pertaining to regulatory and legislative actions impacting inorganic contaminants in drinking water, including corrosion byproducts lead and copper. The IOC/CBP TAW reviews the available data on health effects, occurrence, treatability and costs in order to assess, from the perspective of the AWWA, the viability and feasibility of proposed EPA regulations, and prepares recommendations and expert testimony for the Water Utility Council. The TAW is also responsible for developing studies and research projects to provide data to develop and support the AWWA position on future regulations and/or to challenge the EPA position on proposed or existing regulations. These research projects are managed by either the IOC/CBP TAW or the AWWA Research Foundation. Arsenic has recently emerged as a major contaminant of concern for future, and old lead service lines and solder have consumed the major portion of the TAWs activity over the past several years. This paper will address these efforts and other contaminants and regulations related to inorganic contaminants which are currently under development or revision.
