Water supply is universally recognized as a critical element of life in our society. Wetlands too are becoming generally recognized for the critical values the provide. However, structural water supply projects often come into conflict with wetlands protection goals. This need not be the case. Early coordination and mutual understanding of the objectives and requirements applicable to such cases can yield both needed water supply and wetlands protection.
