Practical Identification and Resolution of Lead Corrosion Issues Due to Elevated Chloride to Sulfate Mass Ratio
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 11/01/2009

Document Format: PDF

Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting a chloride to sulfate mass ratio (CSMR) sample calculation, along with causes of concern – high CSMR, and origin of effect – galvanic corrosion. Three case studies are presented in North Carolina, California, and Maine, that studied the causes and resolution of lead leaching issues. Protocol included changing water twice a week using the dump-and-fill method and collected as weekly composite samples, which were then analyzed for lead (and other metals) as well as Cl- and SO42-. Includes tables, figures.
