This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of both the Milwaukee, Wisconsin Cryptosporidium Outbreak in March – April 1993, and the Carrollton, Georgia Cryptosporidium Outbreakin January – February 1987, and lessons learned from those incidents. The Waterborne Disease and OutbreakSurveillance System is presented, along with positive impacts of national drinking waterregulations and water system practices that include the following: decreasing outbreaks in publicwater systems; public (regulated) systems vs.individual (unregulated); surface water vs. groundwater; Legionella; unregulated deficiencies outsidethe jurisdiction of a water utility; limitations ofoutbreak surveillance data; and, factors influencing outbreak detection,investigation, and reporting.
