This slide presentation outlines trends inhydraulic modeling, explains trend impacts, andpresents case studies thatshow the value of modelcalibration. The first trend presented is Using Output from ModelsFor Other Tasks, examples include:optimizing pipe sizes fordesign studies;deciding where to locateon-line monitors; and,modeling water quality. The second trend is Today’s Models are Bigger and the reasons include: greater computerresources;no need toskeletonize;capable software;geographic information systems (GIS) and customer information systems (CIS) data; and,IDSE requirements. Reasons for calibration of models include: to represent real worldconditions (modelduplicates supervisory control and data acquisition [SCADA]);to establish confidencein the model’s predictions; and,to make decisionsbased on accurateinformation. Calibration of models is outlined and several case studies are presented. Includes table, figures.
