Description

This slide presentation outlines information on a low cost, phased upgrade for smaller water system pressure filter retrofit by the City of Kelso, Washington. The system had not been upgraded since 1978, and the raw water was re-classified as groundwater under the influence of surface water, requiring filtration and disinfection. The project was divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 included: new raw water and finished water supply main;pre-chlorination for iron oxidation; new automated multimedia filtrationsystem by renovating existing pressure filter vessels; and,new chemical building for plant control, chemical storage, chemical injection, and sample analysis. Phase 2 included replacement of two 20 year old horizontal split case finished water pumps with three new vertically mounted split case pumps to provide 50% standby capacity. Topics covered include: construction of new chemical building; construction of new raw water supply main; renovation of pressure filters; and, hypochlorite pumps.
