Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 06/01/2001

Document Format: PDF

Description

This paper presents the American Water Works Association Research Foundation (AWWARF) electronic manual (referred to as “The Manager”) on water plant infrastructure assessment (AWWARF Project 460). The Manager is a multi-discipline approach to conducting a detailed assessment of the condition and functionality of water treatment plant equipment and systems. Features of the Manager include automated report generation and integrated use of assessment tools such as nondestructive evaluation (NDE) videos, multi-discipline assessment guidelines, and illustrative photographs. Customization of the Manager is discussed along with automated generation of reports including condition reports (plant-wide and/or by specific disciplines), safety reports, discipline reports, and vulnerability reports. In addition, discussion is provided on how to integrate the information summarized by the reports into a prioritized capital improvement program for a single plant or multiple plants for which the assessment was completed. Participating utilities for this project included the Chicago Department of Water, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, St. Louis County Water Company, Philadelphia Water Department, and Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. Includes figures.
