Advances in Facilities Management, Network Analysis, SCADA, and AM/FM Systems Enable Integrated System Solutions
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/1992

Document Format: PDF

Description

Facilities management, network analysis, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, and AM/FM systems are expanding their capabilities. At the same time, the industry trend is to provide significantly increased processing power at level costs and to promote the use of standards, such as UNIX. The results are platforms and systems that support tighter integration. The integration of facilities management, network analysis, SCADA, and AM/FM systems is part of a general trend to increase data sharing and reduce the cost of capturing and maintaining redundant data, and to increase the integrity of facility network models. Each system, moreover, is demanding increased graphics capability; the AM/FM system can provide the required level of graphic detail without incurring significant additional conversion cost. This trend is broad enough to include the increasing integration of other systems, such as work management, distribution automation, and demand management. In an integrated model for a water utility, data flows from one organization to another. In the past, the systems that serviced these departments became islands of automation. Today, the systems are being integrated into a corporate resource. By integrating the systems that support the organizations, the flow of information is automated, and redundant data conversion and maintenance are reduced.
