Systems Integration: Applications for Water Distribution
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 03/01/2000

Document Format: PDF

Description

Many water companies, both private and public, have spent millions of dollars developing systems and applications to help with the planning, design, management, maintenance and analysis of their water supply systems and distribution networks. These systems have typically provided a portion of the benefits for which they were originally intended, especially at the departmental level. However, many water company executives are now seeking ways to further leverage their investments in hardware, software, training and data. This paper presents an opinion of the role of integrated technology in the management of water networks, with a particular focus on asset management, work management, and network analysis, as seen from the historic implementations of geographic information systems (GIS), work management, integrated document management and financial systems. In addition, the paper provides a view of how to approach the seemingly overwhelming task of making it all work together. Includes figures.
