Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater is a widely recognized and used manual of analytical methods published jointly by the American Public Health Association, the American Water Works Association, and the Water Pollution Control Federation. Beginning with the fourteenth edition (1976) of Standard Methods, a thoroughly documented consensus procedure for the adoption of the methods has been used. This article reviews the procedure and details the balloting for the sixteenth edition. Includes tables, figure.
