The Feasibility of Constructing a Medium Pressure UV Facility for NYC's Catskill and Delaware Supplies
Conference Proceeding by American Water Works Association, 01/01/2000

Document Format: PDF

Description

As part of a larger project to investigate enhanced disinfectionfor New York City, an engineering feasibility study has shown that placing an ultraviolet light (UV) disinfection facility on the combined Catskill and Delaware systems could result in a cost-effective system with a small footprint. The facility could be incorporated into the existing system infrastructure with minimal hydraulic or mechanical modifications. In addition to the UV reactors, an operations and maintenance building would be constructed at this same site. The purpose of this facility would be the inactivation of bacteria and protozoan organisms such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium in an unfiltered water. As part of this feasibility study, an analysis of available UV disinfection systems was performed. Based on this analysis, a UV disinfection system was identified for further conceptual development. This paper presents the results of the feasibility study including cost estimates. Includes 4 references, tables, figures.
